An obvious short-term goal is to install Broadcom drivers (either b43-firmware or broadcom-wl-dkms), both of which I can get via yaourt. Hello Fabien, sorry for delay, here is the brief of the command. I'm setting up Arch Linux on a MacBook Pro, currently using a phone with USB tethering for internet access.

Do a cold reboot after driver installation. You will need to be connected to internet to do this (and obviously if the driver doesnt work you wont have wifi), so you need a cable/ethernet connection.

Really, I can’t think of anything I use on my Macbook Pro that doesn’t work under Arch Linux (I haven’t tried the card reader nor the thunderbolt ports).

You can try installing the alternative drivers (b43-legacy if I remember correctly) with Menu > Administration > driver manager, and see if that works better. Printing works with cups and the hplip driver for my wi-fi HP printer. I had a similar machine and also had some troubles with the wifi (unstable, speed drops), though not as severe as you. I think we can fix your problem with the nvidia driver (and that might solve the screensaver issue).įor the wifi, I dont know if we can do much, broadcom chips are notoriously problematic. I have been attempting to install Arch Linux on my Macbook Pro but the wireless. 6385a27b27Ĭode: Select all sudo lshw -businfo -class bridge -class display Hi, sorry for the delay, here is the link of the model. Interesting problem with the screensaver, do you use the default one ("Screen locker, the standard cinnamon lock screen" in Menu > Preferences > screen saver) ? you could try switching off most settings in the customize section. Personally (with a MBP7,) I was never really satisfied and bought an external USB wifi adapter in the end.

Indeed there are problems with nvidia on some macs, there are workarounds for some models but it's not trivial. Could you specify more precisely which model you have ? By finding it on the page linked above and giving the corresponding link. Haven't installed anything yet, just lurking for some info before getting hands dirty.Fabien85 wrote:There are 12 mac models corresponding to A1278 :Ħ of them are core 2 duo.

iwd and wifi-menu won't even see any device.ĭo anyone have a guess on which one to use or even some further instruction on how to proceed? Perhaps the behaviour will be different in arch installation medium. The driver in use is the standard b34-pci-bridge and I`m wondering if broadcom-wl or even the brcmfmac option that I see in wiki. Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) Memory at d0500000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) To make this happen at boot, create nf file in /etc/modprobe. To enable PIO mode, install driver by following the guide at, then load the b43 kernel module with pio1 and qos0 parameters. AirPort Extreme įlags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 The only option seems to be loading the b43 driver in PIO mode. $ lspci -vnn -d 14e4: tells me this about my wifi card: $ lspci -vnn -d 14e4:Ġ2:00.0 Network controller : Broadcom Inc.

Mac - ArchWiki () - Based on these docs, where we can see version 4,x models would work fine from kernel 3.2, but since my actual kernel is 5.8.10-arch1-1 and wifi card won't work, I'm assuming there's something wrong, meaning that: a) docs might be wrong or b) the computer is messed up (which I doubt, since Mac OS X runs on wifi nicelly or c) I'm missing something.Įither way, I've tried to fetch some info regarding this problem. I just have some doubts that I'd like to share to see if anyone ever had bumped into something like this before. Right now, I'm in a live session from this EndeavourOS bootable disk from which I intend to install Arch. So since I will need to work this out manually, I ditched Lubuntu and Ubuntu as an option and decided to install Arch - which is way better documented, have a helpful community imo and I've managed to make it run on way lower-end computers before. I remember having this problem with another MacBook I had (7,1) and I had to use an WiFi dongle for it to be able to connect but in this case it didn't worked. I've downloaded Lubuntu and went to try livedisk but from the start, the WiFi card couldn't connect. I'm willing to install Linux on it for many reasons - major one being the lack of support for the latest Mac OS X version I could run on it. I have this old MacBook white (4,1 1.0) which I've upgraded with 4gigs RAM sticks and a 240gigs SSD. Thanks to everybody who commented and gave me a piece of wisdom on this subject. Now I got to find out how to change my keyboard layout for bspwm because I need punctuation lol. Not sure which got the wifi working but it is working fine. Redid that in the proper way, installing with Manjaro_architetech using std linux-firmware and b43-fwcutter as it was suggested in wiki for models 2,1 from 2009. So I figured out the partition table was wrong. UPDATE: after I installed Arch normally as I would do in my other machine, it wouldn't load the system.
